Aberdeen Business School (ABS) has been awarded the reaccreditation for three years, and it comes after a panel of independent assessors commended ABS for its work encouraging growth and development among small businesses through to the SME stakeholder engagement and student enterprise and entrepreneurship.
The panel also noted ABS staff have demonstrated have developed and supported SMEs through Knowledge Transfer Partnerships and knowledge exchange along with UK wide programmes such as Help to Grow and bespoke programmes such as Connect to Business.
Dr Jo Royle, Dean of Aberdeen Business School, said: “We are delighted to be reaccredited with Small Business Charter for another three years. Small businesses are at the heart our focus on business connectivity, and accreditations such as this help us provide the very best support to the local business community.
“At a course level, we ensure enterprise skills and real-life business experiences are part of every student’s journey, it is our relationship with the small business community that makes this possible. We are very grateful to the accreditation panel for acknowledging the range and quality of the work we do.”
Dr James Cunningham, Associate Professor in Entrepreneurship with Aberdeen Business School, said: “Our School has a long history of excellence in small business support and in entrepreneurship research. In a challenging and changing northeast business environment, the need for resilient and entrepreneurial small businesses has never been greater. Small Business Charter helps us set the standard for the support we offer, from the ways we include local small businesses in our courses, to developing our own students as future entrepreneurs through close relationships with the University’s Entrepreneurship and Innovation Group.
“Importantly, this re-accreditation allows continued delivery of the hugely successful Help to Grow: Management Course at a national level. Aberdeen Business School is uniquely placed in the UK to ensure this programme reaches the peripheral businesses of remote, rural, and island communities.”
The Small Business Charter celebrates business schools that play an effective role in supporting small business, local economies and student entrepreneurship. Aberdeen Business School (ABS) first secured accreditation in 2021.
The Small Business Charter is an accreditation celebrating world-class business schools across the UK and Ireland that demonstrate excellence and impact in supporting small businesses, student entrepreneurship, and their local economies.
It was established to signpost entrepreneurs, small businesses, and local economic stakeholders to business schools in their region with the expertise to help them thrive.
In order to achieve the Small Business Charter accreditation, business schools undergo a rigorous assessment to determine the effectiveness of their business support, entrepreneurship education, and engagement with their local economy. Almost 70 business schools across the UK now hold the Small Business Charter.
