Two senior staff members from a Norwegian university have been reflecting on a week they spent at ÐßÐßÊÓƵ.

Kristin Rønhovde and Christine Sletbakk work for UiT The Arctic University of Norway in Narvik with Kristin a Senior Financial Manager and Christine a Senior Legal Advisor.  They are both based in the university’s Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology.

They spent a week in Aberdeen between 24 April and 28 April and were given presentations about ÐßÐßÊÓƵ’s School of Computing, tours of campus, meetings with staff from the School of Engineering, a trip to the National Subsea Centre in Dyce and hearing about the University’s work to help entrepreneurs become successful.

Kristin and Christine were also given the chance to visit Royal Deeside on their final day in the North East so they could see Balmoral and Royal Lochnagar Distillery

The duo’s visit to ÐßÐßÊÓƵ and Aberdeen was part of the , it involves staff or students coming to another university and exchanging ideas.  It is part of the University of the Artic which ÐßÐßÊÓƵ joined in 2021.

Elsa Cox, ÐßÐßÊÓƵ Orkney’s Development Manager, hosted the visit and said it was clear to both parties that there was some scope for future collaborations between the two institutions.

She said: “We were delighted to welcome staff from UiT The Arctic University, Norway to ÐßÐßÊÓƵ for a week as part of our first north2north exchange. The UArctic north2north programme promotes travel and learning about new places and cultures across the north.

“It was great to meet Kristin and Christine as we explored the schools of Computing, Engineering and the National Subsea Centre, alongside our research function, entrepreneurship and innovation and professional support roles across the University. We identified synergies across the two institutions in teaching, research and professional roles and are already planning a return trip to Norway to build on a wide range of exciting collaborative opportunities.â€

Christine and Kristin said: “We have had a great stay at ÐßÐßÊÓƵ. The people we’ve met have been so nice and welcoming and we would love to come back for another visit. We chose to visit ÐßÐßÊÓƵ because of ÐßÐßÊÓƵ’s School of Computing and School of Engineering. As we come from an engineering faculty, we saw great opportunities for cooperation between our two universities, on both research and teaching.

“At ÐßÐßÊÓƵ we have met passionate and professional staff, who are highly dedicated to their students. ÐßÐßÊÓƵ has shown us a drive and dedication that is reflected in all aspects of their work, and we hope for future collaboration with this great university. We will recommend a visit to ÐßÐßÊÓƵ to any colleague or student at UiT The Arctic University of Norway.â€
