Learn to assess the techniques, tools, processes and strategies undertaken by project managers to define, plan, monitor, evaluate, control and deliver project requirements.
We will explore Planning Processes, Scope Management and Planning Methodologies, Time Scheduling, Network Analysis, Critical Path Management, Project Estimating and Budgeting, Earned Value Management, Project Management Information Systems, Project Evaluation and Reporting, Resource Allocation, Aggregation and Levelling, Project Planning Software tools and techniques, Monitoring and Control methods, benefits management, an introduction to Agile methodologies.
Topics
On completion of this course, participants are expected to be able to:
- Understand, analyse and critically apply the theory of planning techniques and evidence competence using contemporary IT project management tools.
- Critically appraise and assess resource scheduling and allocation techniques within a project environment including application of network diagrams, critical path analysis and resource levelling.
- Evaluate and apply key evaluation, monitoring and control processes within a project context.

Learning methods
This module is delivered through online learning, via the University's Virtual Learning Environment, Moodle. A two hour session is planned each week to allow engagement between the teaching team and the course participants to accommodate learner questions and any concerns. The full two hour session may not be required each week.
In the 13 week course duration, there is 9 weeks delivery, with assessment submission 4 weeks later.
Independent Study
Materials and exercises are available online, allowing participants to study flexibly and independently at any time or in any place around existing work and life commitments.
On this course you will also have access to further reading resources and online tutor support.
Assessment
This course is assessed through a written assignment, including essay.

Fee-waiver places
If you are domiciled in Scotland, you may be eligible for a fee-waiver place, meaning you can study for free.
